Is another term which is often used interchangeably with renewable energy, it suggests an non – polluting, non fossil fuel source, the most eminent achievements of this years are the following :

• Registration of Aqapa thermal power station as clean development mechanism project in (UNFCCC) on October 7^th, 2008.
  
   

• The CEGCO won the 2008 alternative Energy Awards for the project of the years announced last November 2008 in Abu Dhabi, the Awards committee selected Aqaba Fuel switch project for this award, as it was the first to meet settled criteria which enhance the reduction of CO2 emissions in the power Generation.
   

Through the fuel switch of the Aqaba thermal power stations from heavy fuel oil (HFO) to natural Gas (NG) took place 5 years ago but the committee noticed that the clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto protocol and united nations presentation to the UN were prepared in joint effort with the E7 organization, CEGCO's Management focused on the CDM as away to make the conversion economically feasible and approached already in 2001 the world carbon fund and other international agencies to assist CEGCO to develop the Aqaba thermal power station fuel switch as a CDM project, this project is the first project registered in Jordan as a (CDM) project and one of the largest projects registered in the MENA region.
 

• On the other side, Aqaba fuel switch project was registered by the UNFCCC on October 7^th, 2008 as a (CDM) project, this qualifies the project to sell carbon reduction emissions in the international market to Annex 1 countries which represent considerable benefits to Jordan.
